In August, the Metaphor team was busy shipping new awesome features including dbt lineage updates, column tagging, API and crawler management, and much more! Read more below.
Users can apply Governed tags such as PII or domain-specific to individual columns.
Easily find tagged columns by using search operator string like `column:id and tag:gold.`
Catalog users can now access all Governed tags and Social hashtags in our new Tags Landing Page. The landing page gives users a summary listing of all tags across the system.
We have improved how we display dbt Lineage within the lineage graph by removing the often confusing dbt model’s dependency when viewing the lineage of a table or view. When viewing the lineage for a table or view users can view an icon that indicates if the table/view is materialized by a dbt model. That way the data consumers are not burdened by unnecessary internal details of how the dbt projects were architected, instead they can just focus on understanding the lineage of the tables.
And for the data producers, we show the full hierarchy of dbt models when viewing a dbt model. And display handy icons and links to indicate which tables or views they are materializing.
Issuing API Keys to query the Metaphor GraphQL is one of several steps we are taking to make Metaphor fully API accessible. Customers can use this screen to generate Keys and follow our API guide to extract content from the platform.
Customers can now control the schedule and configuration of Metaphor’s crawlers themselves. This capability is only available to the Admin Role.
Catalog users can browse their lineage, columns, profiles, and other technical details in full-page view.
The Metaphor Metadata Platform represents the next evolution of the Data Catalog - it combines best in class Technical Metadata (learnt from building DataHub at LinkedIn) with Behavioral and Social Metadata. It supercharges an organization’s ability to democratize data with state of the art capabilities for Data Governance, Data Literacy and Data Enablement, and provides an extremely intuitive user interface that turns even the most non-technical user into a fan of the catalog.
