Speakers: Ivan Seow, Bobby Birstock (dbt), Kirit Basu (Metaphor), Sunny Pachunuri (Endpoint)

Good morning, good afternoon, and good night to everyone viewing this from wherever you are. Thank you for joining us on today's webinar, "Leveraging the Best of the Modern Data Stack," with ThoughtSpot, Metaphor, and dbt. I'm your host for today, and I work in product marketing for ThoughtSpot. Before we start, I want to go over a few housekeeping items.

You probably noticed the Q&A or chat box on your right. Please drop any questions you might have along the way, and we will have time at the end to answer them live. You will also receive a recording of our presentation via email after the webinar

Now, let me introduce our speakers: Bobby Burstock, Partner Engineer from dbt; Kirit Basu, Head of Product for Metaphor; and Sunny, Head of Data Engineering and Platforms from Endpoint.

Today's agenda includes discussing the modern data stack and its ecosystem. We'll cover transforming your data with dbt, governing your data with Metaphor, and experiencing data analytics with ThoughtSpot, followed by a Q&A session.

To start, let's discuss what the modern data stack is. Sunny, could you share your perspective on the modern data stack and how it differs from the traditional data stack?

Sunny: Hi everyone, this is Sunny. The modern data stack focuses on self-service, agile data management, scalability, parallel distribution, and data-agnostic architecture. In contrast, the traditional stack usually sits on-premises, is logically coupled, complex, IT-focused, and often fails to meet the day-to-day data demands of modern organizations.

Ivan: Good points, Sunny. What are some other problems faced by organizations using a traditional data stack?

Kirit: Traditional stacks often lead to long turnaround times, complex workflows, and lack scalability. Governance is often fragmented, and automation is inconsistent. The inability to quickly derive insights from data is a major drawback of traditional systems.

Ivan: Bobby, could you tell us about the benefits of the modern data stack?

Bobby: Sure, the modern data stack brings a lot of automation, which abstracts tedious processes, allowing data professionals to focus on impactful work. This results in more productive data teams, quicker skill growth, and the ability to integrate the best tools for specific needs within the stack.

Ivan: Sunny, could you share your experience and the lessons learned from using dbt at Endpoint?

Sunny: We came from a traditional approach with segregated roles, which was slow and inefficient. With dbt, we unified our team around SQL, which everyone knew, and adopted agile principles. This has significantly reduced our time to production and allowed us to focus on delivering data products.

Ivan: Thanks, Sunny. Kirit, can you tell us how Metaphor is changing the data governance landscape?

Kirit: Metaphor is a modern data catalog built for the modern data stack. It's intuitive and includes everyone in the organization, not just the data team. We focus on making governance agile, documentation comprehensive, and collaboration seamless, helping everyone trust and find data easily.

Ivan: Sunny, how are you using Metaphor at Endpoint?

Sunny: Metaphor has streamlined our data governance and collaboration. We use it to document and manage our data assets, making data accessible to everyone in the company. Its user-centric approach and integration with tools like Slack have significantly improved our productivity.

Ivan: Lastly, let’s talk about the experience layer with ThoughtSpot. We aim to eliminate the dashboard insanity loop by providing live analytics with self-service capabilities, driven by our AI engine. This empowers users to answer their own questions quickly and easily.

Sunny, how has ThoughtSpot helped Endpoint?

Sunny: ThoughtSpot has revolutionized our self-service analytics. By making data easily accessible, we’ve reduced our reliance on the BI team and focused on building robust data models. ThoughtSpot’s user-friendly interface and AI-driven insights have greatly enhanced our data accessibility and decision-making.

Ivan: Thanks to all our speakers, Bobby, Kirit, and Sunny, for joining us today. For more information, visit our websites and explore our resources. Thank you, everyone, for attending, and we hope to see you at our next webinar. Goodbye for now!
