What's New in July 2022

This month the Metaphor team is releasing several exciting updates, including our newly redesigned Asset Detail Page, Knowledge Cards for Documents, Power BI improvements, Asset bulk assignment, and much more! Read about the updates below.

New Feature: Asset Detail Page Redesign

The newly redesigned Asset Detail Page highlights and groups an asset's details in a new intuitive 3-section layout:

• Overview: Find all canonical details about an asset, including a quick stats bar, descriptions, governed tags, contacts, and related documents
• Technical Details: View lineage, columns (schema), and other technical details about the asset
• Knowledge Panel: Access all Knowledge cards and contributors

New Feature: Knowledge Cards for Documents

Easily discuss, share context, validate, and collaborate with Knowledge Cards for Documents in the new Knowledge Panel. Access the Knowledge Panel from our simplified Document Details section on the right side of the document.

‍New Feature: Asset Bulk Assignment

Make your workflow more efficient by assigning governed tags, assign contacts, and following assets in bulk. Users with the data admin role can assign governed tags and contacts, and all other catalog users can follow assets.

‍‍‍New Feature: Column Search Operator

We’ve added a new search operator 'column:' that lets users search for any specific column name within the platform.

Improvements: Power BI Updates

The Power BI integration now differentiates between Reports and Dashboards, and displays the Workspace in which a dashboard or dataset belongs to.

In addition, Power BI Datasets display a list of tables contained in it with a listing of their respective columns. Users can hover over the Type icon to display the formula used to generate a computed column or measure.

Lastly, an updated Power BI lineage intuitively displays the table(s) from the source data warehouse it connects to.

Improvements: ThoughtSpot Updates

ThoughtSpot Data now shows computed columns and the formula used to compute them.

ThoughtSpot Dashboards display live embedded charts directly from ThoughtSpot, which enables quick referencing without having to leave the platform.

New Feature: Embedded URLs

Any rich text area within the Metaphor platform such as Documents, Knowledge Cards, and Asset Descriptions can now include embedded URLs.
